Always a photographer, never a bridesmaid…

October 18, 2008

until now! I haven’t been in a wedding as a bridesmaid since my sister’s wedding this weekend five years ago! So I am completely excited that I have been asked to be a bridesmaid in my good friend Carie’s wedding next July 4!  They have also asked Pete to officiate with Zach’s home church pastor for the ceremony. We’ve known Carie for the past 7 years that we have lived in Carroll County and consider her a super close friend. Zach told Pete how he was going to propose and I was able to shoot it live! How fun! But what is even more amazing is the story of this proposal.

Zach and Carie are senior high youth leaders in the youth ministry Pete runs at Uniontown Bible Church. This summer as the Purity Series was coming to a close, Zach and Carie gave the final talk around a bonfire. As the fire grew larger and larger Zach and Carie took turns talking about how sex is like fire. They challenged the kids with awesome questions about fire. Is fire safe? in what context? The bonfire was safe because it was in a huge fire pit lined with rocks – it had a boundary. It gave warmth and light. But if it were a forest fire raging out of control with no boundaries, it would destroy anything in its’ path. The boundary they were talking about was marriage. The kids were listening intensly as they moved through the talk, and then it came time for Zach to wrap it up. He was concluding with discussion about Adam and Eve and that first perfect union, how she was flesh of his flesh and they walked side by side. He turned to Carie and spoke directly to her telling her that she was his best friend and that he wanted to walk with her side by side forever. He got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. She was shocked. The kids went wild. It was so exciting to watch!!! I was so glad to be there to capture it for them. Can’t wait for the wedding!

How cool is that? I need a transcript of that talk, so I can give it to my boys in 10 years! 🙂
